E to Hon Hitsujigumo
This is a gallery/bookshop with a prominent sign outside featuring two anthropomorphic rabbits. Its owner, Ms. Chiemi Fukui, majored Japanese painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. After graduation, she returned to Kagawa and opened Hitsujigumo in the Minamishinmachi shopping street.
The first floor is a bookshop that primarily stocks books of paintings and illustrations.
Take the back stairs to visit the gallery on the second floor, where the works of Ms. Fukui and others that moved her are on display.
She carefully creates a welcoming atmosphere to encourage people who have not studied art to walk in easily. The illustration art prints in soft shades that hang between the books, some featuring Bakemono Usagi, a Hitsujigumo character, should soothe your heart.
She says: "I care about the people who are comforted by cute objects or even consider them lifesavers."
Whether you like pictures or books, you can immerse yourself in her worldview.
